How is the program funded?
- Meals on Wheels of Solano County is funded through Area Agency on Aging. Only 65% of our annual budget is provided by Federal and State funding under Title III of the Older Americans Act.
- The remainder of funds is secured each year through community donations, fundraising events, and grants to cover the full cost of the services we provide.
Do you charge for your services?
What if I cannot afford to send a donation to Meals on Wheels?
- No one is denied help if they cannot afford to make donation.
- Our program is not based on ability to donate for the meals; it is based on our clients’ need for balanced, nutritious meals that help to keep them healthy and independent.
- We will continue to deliver meals to you. We are thankful for the donations we receive, but we recognize that some of our clients cannot afford the donation.
Do I pay the driver every day?
- No. Each month we will send you a statement for the number of meals we delivered to you the previous month. We will provide you a return envelope. Just put your donation in the envelope and mail it back to Meals on Wheels of Solano County.

What does Congregate Dining mean and what are Senior Centers?
- Congregate (community) dining -- sharing a meal with number of other people in one location.
- While the main goal of our Meals on Wheels Congregate Site program is to feed seniors in need, the program provides people with much more than just a meal. Our congregate meal sites give participating seniors the opportunity to socialize with members of the surrounding community.
- If you are over 60 years of age, you are invited to join us for lunch on Monday through Friday with other seniors for a nutritious mid-day meal. Senior Centers are located throughout Solano County.
