Meals on Wheels of Solano County has been delivering meals to homebound seniors in Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville and Vallejo since 1977. Our registered dietitian plans all of the menus. A ll meals are low fat, sodium, sugar and diabetics may receive a different dessert. All meals are prepared and packaged at our central kitchen in Suisun City, California.

Program

• Providing and delivering nutritious (1/3 recommended daily allowances) dietitian approved lunch 11:30 am – 1:30 pm Monday through Friday for homebound seniors. Clients must be home to receive the meals.
• Meals will be delivered in advance of seasonal holidays.
• Daily Contact - saves lives and allows seniors to remain in their own homes.
• Receive a monthly menu and information on other social service programs.
• Receive nutritional and preventive health information.
• Eligible seniors can order meals for five weekdays and two frozen meals for the weekend.

Meals on Wheels of Solano County is partially funded through Area Agency on Aging. Only 65% of our annual budget is provided by Federal and State funding under Title III of the Older Americans Act. The remainder of funds is secured each year through community donations, fundraising events, and grants to cover the full cost of the services we provide.

We do not charge for our services. Our suggested donation is $3.00 per meal or $15.00 per week.

Eligibility

• Any homebound senior 60 years of age and older, who is unable to shop or cook for themselves and lives in Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville or Vallejo and may qualify to receive home delivered meals.
• You may also receive Meals on Wheels, regardless of your age, if you live in designated senior housing or are the caregiver spouse/companion of a 60+ senior who is receiving meals.

Application Process

Meals can be started by completing the PSA #28 Client Intake Form and completing a phone interview by the Intake Coordinator or Home Delivered Manager. An in-home assessment is required within the first 10 days of receiving the meals.
